In 2007, Russia utilized 79 percent of the steel quota allocated to it by the European Union (EU), while Ukraine utilized 92 percent of its EU quota. On the other hand, Kazakhstan utilized 44 percent of its allocation.
According to the latest statistics, Russia exported a total of 2,295,513 tons of steel products to the EU in 2007. The quota allocated to Russia for 2007 was 2,904,000 tons.
Specifically, Russia used 97 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (1,010,726 of 1,042,090 allotted tons), 86 percent of its plate quota (231,892 of 270,820 allotted tons), 45 percent of its alloy sheet quota (42,641 of 94,860 allotted tons), and 49 percent of its wire rod quota (133,986 of 275,000 allotted tons).
With regard to Ukraine, it exported a total of 1,211,518 tons of steel products to the EU in 2007, filling 92 percent of its revised quota of 1,320,000 tons.
When the figures are broken down, we see that Ukraine filled 86 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (163,047 of 190,000 allotted tons), 93 percent of its heavy plate quota (363,642 of 390,000 allotted tons), 98 percent of its beam quota (48,974 of 50,000 allotted tons), and 97 percent of its wire rod quota (189,759 of 195,000 allotted tons).
Finally, Kazakhstan exported a total of 89,945 tons of steel products to the EU in 2007, filling 44 percent of its total quota of 205,000 tons.
Specifically, Kazakhstan filled 66 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (57,437 of 87,125 allotted tons), and 28 percent of its other flat rolled quota (32,508 of 118,000 allotted tons).
