In the first two months of 2007,
Russia utilized 20 percent of the steel quota allocated to it by the European Union (EU), while
Ukraine utilized 11.8 percent of its revised EU quota. However,
Kazakhstan has not made use of its allocation yet.
According to the latest statistics,
Russia exported a total of 455,300 tons of steel products to the EU in the first two months of 2007. The quota allocated to
Russia for 2007 is 2,273,000 tons.
Specifically,
Russia used 24 percent of its hot rolled coil quota (220,359 of 931,000 allotted tons), 27 percent of its
plate quota (52,127 of 195,000 allotted tons), nine percent of its alloy sheet quota (8,732 of 100,000 allotted tons) and 15 percent of its
wire rod quota (25,970 of 177,000 allotted tons).
With regard to
Ukraine, it exported a total of 118,130 tons of steel products to the EU in the first two months of 2007, filling 11.8 percent of its total quota of 1,004,500 tons.
When the figures are broken down, we see that
Ukraine filled seven percent of its coil quota (10,130 of 154,000 allotted tons) and 22 percent of its heavy
plate quota (79,167 of 357,000 allotted tons).
