EU Commission sets deadline for Bami JV inquiry

The European Commission has announced the receipt of a notification that Mitsui & Co. Europe (‘Mitsui', UK) and Bamesa Celik Service Sanayi ve Ticaret (‘Bamesa Celik', Turkey), jointly controlled by Bamesa Aceros SL (‘Bamesa', Spain) and ArcelorMittal Group (‘ArcelorMittal', Luxembourg), have acquired joint control of the whole of a newly created JV, Bami Celik Service Sanayi ve Ticaret AS (‘Bami', Turkey), by way of purchase of shares.

The Commission has announced that the deadline for its inquiry into the proposed acquisition is set for September 18.

Bami Celik is involved in steel processing and distribution in Turkey, while Bamesa Aceros operates a network of service centers which are active in the iron and steel sector. Meanwhile, Mitsui operates in the worldwide trading of a number of commodities, including steel products.

Concerning procedures relating to the implementation of the competition policy, the Commission invites interested third parties to submit their possible observations regarding the proposed acquisition to the Commission.
