Annual inflation in the European Union was 2.2 percent in September this year, up from a revised two percent in August, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In September 2009 the annual inflation rate was registered as 0.3 percent. Meanwhile, monthly inflation was 0.2 percent in September this year.
In September, the lowest annual rates were observed in Ireland with -1.0 percent, in Latvia with -0.3 percent and in Slovakia with 1.1 percent, and the highest were seen in Romania with 7.7 percent, in Greece with 5.7 percent and in Estonia with 3.8 percent. Compared with August, annual inflation in September fell in three member states, remained stable in four and rose in twenty.
The lowest 12-month averages up to the end of September this year were registered in Ireland at -2.1 percent, in Latvia at -1.9 percent and in Slovakia at 0.4 percent, while the highest were recorded in Romania at 5.2 percent, in Hungary at 4.9 percent and in Greece at 3.9 percent.
