European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel will visit US President Joe Biden on October 20, according to Reuters.

The parties will come together to try to finalize the steel and aluminum tariff dispute between the two sides by the deadline of October 31 this year, along with promoting green production and addressing the issue of overcapacity, especially focusing on China. Furthermore, they will reinforce their transatlantic partnership and discuss another round of sanctions on Russia and ways to prevent any circumvention of these sanctions.

As SteelOrbis reported earlier, the US and the European Union had reached arrangements in 2021 that the US would replace the Section 232 tariffs on EU steel and aluminum products with a tariff-rate quota (TRQ) and that the EU would suspend additional duties imposed on US products, with a deadline of October 31, 2023.
