EU-27 commercial vehicle registrations down 4.7 percent in Jan

New commercial vehicle registrations across the EU in January this year amounted to 141,120 units, decreasing by 4.7 percent compared to the same month last year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). Looking at new registrations in the major markets in the EU-27 region in January, Germany (+3.1 percent) was the only country recording growth, while Spain (-21.1 percent), the UK (-8.1 percent) and France (-1.8 percent) indicated contractions, all on year-on-year basis.
 
Results were diverse across major markets in the EU-27 in new heavy commercial vehicle registrations in January this year, leading to an overall year-on-year increase of 3.9 percent. The UK posted strong growth (+35.8 percent), while France grew more moderately (+3.3 percent), Germany slipped by 1.6 percent, and Spain (-12.6 percent) and Italy (-13.5 percent) contracted more significantly, all compared to the same month last year.
 
In the first month of this year, 24,538 new trucks were registered in the EU-27, up 4.5 percent compared to January 2011. In the meantime, new registrations of buses and coaches were down by 4.5 percent year on year in January.
