Estar to build new steel plant in Rostov

Russian steel producer Estar Holding (Estar) has announced that in the fourth quarter of 2008 it will commence the construction of a new electric arc furnace-based steel plant, Yuzhnorusskiy Electro-Metallurgical Plant (Yuzhnorusskiy EMZ), at Shakhty, Rostov.

The new €350 million-worth plant will consist of an electric arc furnace (EAF), ladle furnace, billet concaster and long rolling mill for production of beams and profiles for the construction industry.

Yuzhnorusskiy EMZ's annual crude steel capacity is slated to be one million mt. The new plant's production is expected to be used widely in construction projects in the southern regions of Russia. The construction is scheduled to be completed within three years.
