Egypt’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has announced that it has launched antidumping and countervailing duty investigations against rebar imports from Turkey, Ukraine and China.

Accordingly, the Egyptian authorities have requested Egyptian importers to submit their import data for the last three years within 37 days. The period under investigation covers July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016.

Market sources told SteelOrbis that, if a high duty rate is imposed on rebar imports, Turkish rebar sales to Egypt might come to a halt.

According to the data for the January-October period this year, Egypt ranked as Turkey’s third-biggest rebar export destination with 707,855 mt of rebar exports, up 29 percent year on year.
