Egypt imposes tariffs on rebar and wire rod imports for three years

Egyptian government has informed the World Trade Organization (WTO) of its final decision in the safeguard duty investigation initiated in October 2014 regarding imports of rebar and wire rod.
 
According to the final decision, an eight percent tariff will be effective on rebar and wire rod imports until October 13, 2015 at a minimum of EGP 400/mt ($53.5/mt) and a 6.5 percent tariff will be effective in the period from October 14, 2015 to October,13 2016 at a minimum EGP 325/mt ($42.6/mt), while a 3.5 percent tariff will be effective from October 14, 2016 to October 13, 2017 at a minimum EGP 175/mt ($23/mt).
 
On October 14, 2014, Egypt had imposed safeguard import duty on wire rod and rebar for a maximum of 200 days at EGP 290/mt.
 
The products subject to import duty currently fall under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 7213 and 7214.
