Downtrend in US and Canadian rig counts softens slightly

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending March 27 the US rig count decreased by 21 to 1,048 after a 56-rig drop the previous week. The gas rig count decreased by nine to 233, whereas the oil rig count decreased by 12 to 813. The overall rig count is down by 761 from 1,809 rigs during the same week a year ago.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 20 in the week ending March 27 to reach 120 after an 80-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is down by 178 from 298 rigs during the same week a year ago.
