Downtrend in US and Canadian rig counts show no signs of relief

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending April 10 the US rig count decreased by 40 to 988, after a 20-rig drop the previous week. The gas rig count increased by three to 225, whereas the oil rig count decreased by 42 to 760. The overall rig count is down by 843 from 1,831 rigs during the same week a year ago.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by one in the week ending April 10 to 99, after a 20-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is down by 113 from 212 rigs during the same week a year ago.
