Dispute with the union might lead to a strike at Asil Celik

The mill with an annual capacity of 235'000 mt hot rolled products, had been privatized a couple of years ago. SteelOrbis understands there has been a dispute between the union and the management over the workers' salaries. According to market rumors, the management is already not very happy with salary increases given prior to privatization, and consequently with the current payroll structure, and trying to reduce the total sum. On the other hand the union has been demanding a further adjustment by means of an increase around 10%. Under these circumstances, the union is now considering whether to go on strike or not. If they do decide to go on strike they will have to announce so and put the management on formal notice, either by January 31 or February 7.
