Demand spurs Emirates Iron and Steel to up production

Emirates Iron and Steel Factory (EISF) confirmed that it increased its capacity to 600'000 tons in 2004 from 340.000 tons in 2003. The production figure, which indicates the company nearly doubled its production, is attributed to robust demand in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) fueled by an increase in construction activities. Steel demand in the UAE market, which was 2.5 million tons in 2004, is expected to surpass 3 million tons in this year. Company officials point out EISF has no intention of exporting its products since the company cannot keep pace with domestic demand.
