Czech steelmaker Evraz Vitkovice Steel, a subsidiary of Russian steel producer Evraz Group, has announced the temporary decommissioning of its heavy section mill and of its steel plant due to low demand during the current economic downturn.

Accordingly, Evraz Vitkovice's heavy plate mill was idled on February 2 and is planned to be recommissioned on February 22. Furthermore, operations at Evraz Vitkovice's steel plant have been suspended as of February 1 and are scheduled to be restarted on February 15.

Meanwhile, during the stoppage of the production units in question, 35 of the heavy plate mill's 209 workers and 91 of the steel plant's 390 workers will be involved in maintenance works, while the remaining employees will be sent on annual leave or temporarily laid off, receiving 80 percent of their salary.
