Cuba’s Antillana de Acero commissions new EAF plant

Cuba-based long steel producer Antillana de Acero has commissioned its new electric arc furnace steel mill, Unidad Empresarial de Base, according to media reports.

The new plant, which is included in a project financed by a loan from Russia, will increase the country’s steel production and exports. The overall project, which is aimed at modernizing the operations of the company, is scheduled to be concluded in 2024 with the start-up of the rolling mill.

The EAF plant has an annual production capacity of more than 200,000 mt.
