The Brazilian steel and iron ore producer CSN will start metallic packaging production activities in the city of Taubaté, in the southeastern state of São Paulo.
According to the local press, CSN will assume the plant that belonged to the Ford Motor Company, which halted the production of vehicles in Brazil in January 2021.
The Taubaté plant, which was used by Ford to produce engines and gearboxes for its automotive line, will host a line of metallic packaging from CSN, based on the expertise of its subsidiary Prada Embalagens, which produces steel cans and other similar items.
The operation of the plant will require about one thousand workers, which are already being selected by CSN.
During a period of 15 years, the new plant will have a reduction of taxes, which was granted by the Taubaté authorities as an incentive for CSN to settle in the city.
