The consumer confidence index in Mexico rose 2.0 percent, year-over-year, in May. For the month of May overall, it is the highest level in the last 22 years, according to SteelOrbis' analysis of data from national statistics agency Inegi.

In May the confidence index was 44.67 points, the highest level in the last 22 years for the same fifth month of the year, only surpassed by the 45.19 of May 2001.

The 50 point level marks the division between the zone of optimism (above 50) and the zone of pessimism (below 50 points). In more than two decades of the indicator's history, the 50 point level has never been reached.

The annual variation for May was the fifth consecutive increase, after a period of seven consecutive months of contraction.
