Colombia's iron and steel exports down 19.8 percent in 2013

In 2013, Colombia exported 138,837 mt of ferronickel, falling 5.3 percent, with a value of $680.12 million, down 22.8 percent, both year on year, as announced by the Colombian National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE). In December, the country's ferronickel exports amounted to 12,299 mt, decreasing by 7.5 percent, while the revenue from these exports was $52.01 million, down 26.7 percent, both compared to December 2012.
 
In December last year, Colombian iron and steel exports amounted to 24,147 mt, falling 1.8 percent, and were worth $68.11 million, down 24.8 percent, both compared to the same month of 2012. In 2013, Colombia's iron and steel export volume totaled 260,592 mt, down 19.8 percent year on year, with a value of $854.49 million, down 26.0 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, last year Colombia imported 2.66 million mt of iron and steel, decreasing by 0.2 percent year on year, with a value of $2.38 billion, down 11.4 percent.
