In the week ended January 13, coal shipments from the Port of Newcastle in Queensland, the coal producing state of Australia, totaled 2.68 million mt, according to Newcastle Port Corporation. The figure constitutes a decrease of 18.29 percent compared to the previous week ended January 6, in which a week-on-week decrease of 7.66 percent in coal shipments had been observed.
In the January 1-13 period, Newcastle port exported 5.13 million mt of thermal and coking coal. The port authority has forecast that Newcastle port will ship a total of 12.97 million mt for the whole of January.
Anglo American, Peabody Energy, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
