US-based coal producer Cliffs Natural Resources has announced that it plans to idle operations at its Pinnacle metallurgical coal mine in West Virginia as a result of current poor market conditions for metallurgical coal.

In the filing made to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said that, if market conditions do not improve, it is expected that the idling of the Pinnacle mine could last more than six months beginning on or about August 25, 2014.
