Commenting on the preliminary ruling of the US to investigate imports of light-walled rectangular pipe and tube from China and three other countries, Zhang Jingang, deputy secretary general of the China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), said that the claims of injury made by the US were groundless.
Zhang Jingang also said that the US steel industry was earning strong profits, adding that the Chinese government did not pay any subsidies to steel mills, and that Chinese material posed no material threat to the US.
On the other hand, the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) of the US has asked the federal government to abolish duties on imported steel, citing the continued negative impact of the tariffs on the US automotive industry.
