CISA opposes Rio Tinto-BHP Billiton tie-up

According to a statement issued by the China Iron and Steel Association, the proposed merger of global mining giants Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton is a monopoly in a disguised form. The association went on to call for countries and mills to block the merger attempt.

As the CISA stated, the combination of the two iron ore giants will promote information exchange and coordinated production between them, which will greatly threaten the development of the global steel industry and should be opposed by all steel mills.
