The Turkish Steel Exporters’ Association (CIB), a business association of producers and exporters in the Turkish steel industry, announced Thursday it is pleased with the US Department of Commerce’s preliminary findings regarding certain hot-rolled steel flat products. This week, Commerce announced a negative preliminary determination in the countervailing duty (CVD) investigation of imports of certain hot-rolled steel flat products from Turkey.
“After a series of unfair rulings on Turkish steel imports, CIB is pleased that Commerce’s preliminary ruling on hot-rolled steel is in Turkey’s favor,” said Namik Ekinci, chairman of CIB. “The recent filings by US producers have continued to reveal a reliance on antagonistic practices that uneven the playing field for foreign steel producers, Turkey in particular. However, we are confident that Commerce will find a similar ruling in the other petitions filed by U.S. steel producers, and we look forward to the final determination on hot-rolled steel later this year.”
In the Turkey investigation, it’s proved by the preliminarily determination of DOC that Turkish companies do not get any subsidies from government. As a result of the negative preliminary determinations, no cash deposit will be required for imports of certain hot-rolled steel flat products from Turkey.
Commerce indicated that it is scheduled to announce its final determinations in May 2016. The US International Trade Commission is scheduled to make its final injury determinations in July 2016.
