One of the largest Russian pipe producers, ChTPZ Group, has announced that in the second quarter of 2009 its subsidiary Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant (ChTPZ) will deliver large diameter (LD) pipes to Russian state-owned oil transportation company Transneft for the construction of Baltic Pipeline System-2 (BPS-2), the second trunk line of the oil transport system.

Under the scope of the agreement, ChTPZ is to supply to Transneft 29,000 mt of LD pipes of 1,076 mm in diameter and 11-13 mm wall thickness.

The Baltic Pipeline System (BPS) is designed for transportation of Russian oil in a northwest direction for the European and US markets. The construction of BPS-2, which will run from the Unecha junction of the Druzhba pipeline near the Russia-Belarus border to the Ust-Luga terminal, will allow Russia to transport oil without the contribution of transit countries.

In addition, ChTPZ will deliver to Transneft about 9,000 mt of pipes of 820 mm in diameter for repair and maintenance needs, and also a batch of pipes of 530 mm in diameter.
