Chrysler expects 2005 steel consumption to equal 2004

Platts reports that Chrysler Group expects its 2005 hot-rolled consumption to equal 2004. The company reported that it expects to consume approximately two-million short tons of hot-rolled steel in 2005 at its 14 North American assembly plants. That figure is equal to Chrysler’s steel consumption in 2004. Roughly half of that figure goes to Chrysler’s tier-one parts suppliers. The company refused to comment on how its steel production correlates to projected motor vehicle production levels. Last year, Chrysler produced approximately 2.7 million automobiles.
