China's General Customs Administration has announced that
China's steel exports in August totaled 3.86 million metric tons, up 188 percent year on year and up 7.8 percent month on month. Meanwhile, imports totaled 1.63 million metric tons, down 24.1 percent year on year, but up 6.5 percent month on month. In conclusion,
China's net steel exports increased 8.7 percent month on month to 2.23 million metric tons in August.
From January to August,
China's cumulative steel exports increased 69.8 percent year on year to 24.52 million metric tons, while cumulative steel imports decreased 28.2 percent to 12.57 million metric tons, resulting in 11.95 million metric tons of cumulative net exports.
On the other hand, semi-finished steel exports totaled 1.13 million metric tons in August, up 205 percent year on year and up 36.1 percent month on month. Imports totaled approximately 50,000 metric tons, down 60 percent year on year, but up 67 percent month on month. The result was 1.08 million metric tons in net exports, up 35 percent month on month.
From January to August,
China's cumulative semi-finished steel exports increased 13.4 percent year on year to 5.06 million metric tons. Cumulative imports decreased 70.5 percent to 290,000 metric tons, resulting in 4.77 million metric tons cumulative net exports.
The total semi-finished steel and finished steel exports reached 3.31 million mt in August, equal to 3.45 million metric tons of crude steel. The cumulative net exports of
semis and steel from January to August totaled 16.72 million metric tons, equal to 17.48 million metric tons of crude steel.
