On October 9, Australian miner Mount Gibson Iron Limited stated that certain Chinese mills had asked for a postponement of iron ore shipments due in the second quarter (October to December) of the 2009 fiscal year; however, they did not disclose the names of the companies in question.

Mount Gibson said that they are under no obligation to comply with the requests from customers. On the contrary, they emphasized that customers should complete their transactions and take delivery of goods in strict accordance with their long-term supply agreement. However, the Australian supplier said they will try to work in coordination with customers to avoid further difficulties.

In the first half of the current year, Mount Gibson sold a total of 1.432 million mt of iron ore, including 712,000 mt of lump ore and 720,000 mt of fines.
