Chinese investment in Latin America surges strongly in past 12 months

According to a report released by China-based financial services company Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu CPA, Chinese investment in Latin America increased by 286 percent year on year in the past 12 months, with most of this investment focused on Brazil and Argentina.

Chinese companies invested $15.584 billion in Latin America in the 12 months from June 2010 to May 2011. In comparison, Chinese investment in the region from June 2009 to May 2010 was only $4.04 billion.
