China's National Energy Administration has stated that in the January-June period of the current year the country's coal consumption amounted to 1.89 billion mt, up 3.1 percent year on year. Coal consumption in the power generation industry rose significantly, while coal consumption in the steel and construction industries decreased in the given period.

Li Fulong, deputy director of the development planning division of the National Energy Administration, stated that the improvement in China’s economy this year contributed to the increased coal consumption in the first half of the year.
