China’s steel plate imports down 13.6 percent in July

In July this year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow sections amounted to 90,000 mt, 20,000 mt, 880,000 mt, and 40,000 mt, down 15.0 percent, up 31 percent, down 13.6 percent, and decreasing by 11.7 percent, respectively, year on year, as announced by China’s customs authorities. In the January-July period of current year, China’s import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow sections totaled 630,000 mt, 240,000 mt, 6.48 million mt, and 230,000 mt, declining by 11.5 percent, 6.5 percent, 8.3 percent and 22.5 percent, respectively, year on year.

In July this year, China imported 1.05 million mt of finished steel, down 14.2 percent year on year, while the finished steel import volume in the January-July period of the current year totaled 7.70 million mt, down 9.1 percent year on year, as previously announced by the Chinese customs authorities
