China’s steel bar imports down 11.2 percent in first quarter

In March this year, China imported 1.21 million mt of finished steel, down 3.7 percent year on year, according to the monthly import and export data issued by the Chinese customs authorities. In the first quarter of the year, China imported 3.23 million mt of finished steel, down 10.0 percent year on year.
 
In particular, in March China's import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow profiles amounted to 90,000 mt, 40,000 mt, 1.02 million mt, and 30,000 mt, down 13.4 percent, 9.1 percent, 2.0 percent, and 12.3 percent, respectively, year on year. In the first quarter, China's import volumes of steel bars, angles/channels, steel plate, and steel pipes and hollow profiles amounted to 250,000 mt, 110,000 mt, 2.72 million mt, and 100,000 mt, down 11.2 percent, 3.8 percent, 9.6 percent and 18.6 percent, respectively, year on year.
