In the January-August period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 25.31 million deadweight tons (dwt), up 14.6 percent year on year, according to the figures released by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI).
In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 15.05 million dwt, down 68.3 percent year on year. As of the end of August, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 135.14 million dwt, down 12.1 percent year on year and decreasing by 9.5 percent compared to the end of 2014.
In the January-August period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 22.65 million dwt, up 18.8 percent year on year and accounting for 89.5 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 12.91 million dwt, down 71.1 percent year on year and constituting 85.8 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of August, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 128.27 million dwt, down 12.2 percent year on year and constituting 94.9 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
