In the January-February period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output in China amounted to 9.36 million dead weight tons (dwt), rising by 123 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, China’s new ship orders amounted to 2.21 million dwt, increasing by 133 percent year on year. As of the end of February, ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 92.07 million dwt, down 22.6 percent year on year and decreasing by 7.6 percent compared to the end of 2016.
In the January-February period this year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders in China totaled 9.07 million dead weight tons (dwt), up 127 percent year on year and accounting for 96.9 percent of the total shipbuilding output in China in the given period. Meanwhile, China’s new ship export orders in the period in question amounted to 1.91 million dwt, increasing by 122 percent year on year and constituting 96.3 percent of total new ship orders. As of the end of February, ship export orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises totaled 84.06 million dwt, down 25.9 percent year on year and constituting 91.3 percent of total ship orders on the books of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises.
