China’s iron ore imports increase by 7.5 percent in 2016

In December last year, China’s imports of iron ore and iron ore concentrate amounted to 88.95 million mt, down 3.03 million mt month on month and decreasing by 7.6 percent year on year, while in the full year of 2016 China’s imports of iron ore and iron ore concentrate totaled 1024.12 million mt, up 7.5 percent year on year, as announced by the Chinese customs authorities on January 16.

In December last year, China imported 1.19 million mt of finished steel, up 80,000 mt month on month and increasing by 0.8 percent year on year. In 2016, China’s imports of finished steel totaled 13.21 million mt, rising by 3.4 percent year on year.
