The Mexican unit of the Chinese Hisense Home Appliances in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon (Mexico) says it wants a greater presence in the United States market and is therefore looking for new suppliers of steel and other inputs to reduce its production costs, a Mexican newspaper published today.

The vice president of Hisense Monterrey Home Appliances Manufacturing, Samuel Peña, said in an interview with the newspaper El Economista that they are looking for suppliers of steel raw material, such as galvanized sheet, black steel (for gas conduction) and pre-painted sheet (embossed finish). In addition to aluminum, plastic and rubber parts.

The report did not indicate the volumes of steel the company needs. According to Canacero, the steel companies that produce galvanized sheets are Ternium and the company Talleres y Aceros (Tyasa). In addition to the Korean Posco and the Mexican Grupo Villacero.

In the first two months of the year, 676,000 mt of galvanized sheet were consumed in Mexico, of which 68 percent was domestically produced and the rest imported.

According to the website, Hisense has 14 industrial plants in the world and the largest after China is in Mexico, where it produces stoves and refrigerators.

Hisense is installed in a Cluster of Home Appliances, in Nuevo León, where companies such as LG México, Whirlpool, Carrier, Siemens, Mabe and Lenomex also produced.
