China’s electricity consumption rises 10.8 percent in May

According to China's National Bureau of Statistics, in May this year total electric power consumption in China amounted to 386.5 billion kWh, rising by 10.8 percent year on year.

In the first five months of the current year, aggregate electric power consumption in China totaled 1.86 trillion kWh, up 12 percent year on year. In the given period, electric power consumption of primary industry in China increased by 4.4 percent year on year to 37.2 billion kWh, while year-on-year increases of 11.7 percent and 15 percent respectively were recorded in secondary and tertiary industry in China, reaching 1.39 trillion kWh and 197.9 billion kWh.

In January-May this year, newly-added electricity generation capacity in China totaled 24.49 million kW in China, including 3.93 million kW of hydro power and 16.38 million kW of thermal power.
