China’s coal output down 5.3 percent in Q1

In the January-March period of the current year, China produced 810 million mt of coal, down 5.3 percent year on year, as announced by China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). By the end of March, Chinese coal producers’ coal inventories amounted to a total of 120 million mt, down 9.4 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the main Chinese power generating plants have coal inventories totaling 59 million mt, which is sufficient to sustain power generation for 18 days.
