China’s coal consumption may reach 4.3 billion mt by 2015

The China Electricity Council has announced that by 2015 Chinese coal consumption may reach 4.3 billion mt, an increase of 970 million mt as compared to 2010, registering an average year-on-year growth of 5.2 percent in the period up to 2015. According to the latest figures issued by China’s National Bureau of Statistics, in 2011 China’s coal production totaled 3.52 billion mt, while its coal imports for the year came to 170 million mt. Meanwhile, total coal consumption in China in 2011 amounted to 3.7 billion mt.
