The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) has announced that China's production and sales volumes of automobiles in 2010 both exceeded 18 million units, constituting an all-time record for any country worldwide, breaking the previous annual record of 17.4 million units for both production and sales volumes recorded by the US in 2000.

In 2010, China's output and sales volumes of automobiles respectively amounted to 18.2647 million units and 18.0619 million units, up by 32.44 percent and 32.37 percent respectively year on year. In December last year, the production and sales volumes in question were 1.86 million and 1.67 million units.

Meanwhile, the CAAM predicted that in 2011 China's domestic automobile production will register a 10-15 percent year-on-year increase, with the growth of national auto output decelerating as purchase restriction policies implemented by local governments take effect in the current year.
