China to place duties on US-imported cars

The Chinese commerce ministry reported Wednesday that that it will impose anti-dumping duties on certain US-made vehicles imported from the US. The duties will specifically impact vehicles with 2.5-liter engines and above.

General Motors Co. will face duties as high as 12.9 percent, while duties may be as high as 8.8 percent for the Chrysler Group, 2 percent for the US unit of BMW and 2.7 percent for the US branch of Daimler AG (DAI). Other US automakers such as Honda Motor Corporation's US division will also face anti-dumping taxes although the exact amount was not specified. Already, China places tariffs of 25 percent on all imported cars.
