China to eliminate more ferroalloy production capacities

To intensify the supervision of high energy consumption and high pollution enterprises, the Chinese government plans to eliminate more ferroalloy production capacities.

In 2009, China eliminated a total of 1.62 million mt of ferroalloy production capacity, with the largest amount eliminated by Guizhou Province, followed in order by the provinces of Shanxi and Hunan.

According to the Chinese Ferroalloy Industry Association, China plans to eliminate 3 million mt of a total 33.6 million mt annual ferroalloy production capacity. In the domestic ferroalloy industry, all submerged arc furnaces below 6300 KVA will be eliminated by the end of 2010.
