On February 7 China commenced construction of the eastern segment of the country's second West-East natural gas pipeline in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province.

Following China's first West-East natural gas transmission project, the second West-East natural gas project involves the construction of a strategic energy line that will cross a total of 15 regions. According to the plans, construction of the western segment of the pipeline is expected to be completed by the end of the current year, and the whole line is expected to be operational by the end of 2011. The total investment for the second West-East gas pipeline amounts to RMB 142.2 billion ($20.8 billion).

X80 grade pipeline steel is to be used in the second West-East gas project, which is the largest pipeline project in the world to adopt X80 grade steel.
