SteelOrbis Shanghai China's apparent consumption of ferrocolumbium in 2005 exceeded that of America and Japan for the first time, making her the most ferrocolumbium consuming country. Ferrocolumbium consumption is important in terms of defining the high strength steel production quantity. In 2005, China imported 9,622 metric tons of ferrocolumbium, up 167 percent compared with the 3,603 metric tons in 2004, while China's total output of high strength steel that contains columbium reached around 20 million metric tons. In 1990s, China used to consume only twenty-thirty tons of ferrocolumbium. More and more Chinese iron and steel enterprises have mastered on columbium alloying technology. In 2005, in addition to over one million metric tons of ferrocolumbium alloyed steel produced by each of Baosteel, Angang and Wuhan Steel, other steel mills such as Jinan Steel and Tangshan Steel also produced around 100,000 metric tons each.
