Changjiang Steel to start work on phase two of special steel project

Anhui Province-based Chinese steelmaker Changjiang Iron and Steel Co. (Changjiang Steel), a subsidiary of Maanshan Iron and Steel (Masteel), has announced that it is about to start construction work on phase two of its 3 million mt capacity special steel project. Phase one was commissioned last year, while phase two is expected to be put into operation at the end of the current year.
 
The overall project, on which construction commenced in September 2009, will cost RMB 8 billion ($1.3 billion) and will produce 2.7 million mt of pig iron, 3 million mt of crude steel and 2.80 million mt of finished steel each year. It is expected that in the current year Changjiang Steel will produce 2.40 million mt of pig iron, 2.30 million mt of crude steel and 2.10 million mt of finished steel.
