Cargo tonnage to rise on Mozambique’s Limpopo railway in 2012

Traffic on the Limpopo railway line this year could reach 700,000 mt of miscellaneous cargo, according to company projections of the Ports and Railways of Mozambique (CFM), based on signs of the improving economic situation in Zimbabwe and the growing regional interest along the route of the Port of Maputo.

Rosario Mualeia, chairman of the board of directors of CFM, commented, "This year we want to invest in maintenance in order to reach profitable levels of traffic on a line as important as this. There are already customers who contact us saying they want to bring 500,000 tons of ferrochrome on the line, which certainly will be a plus, since current demand does not cover the capacity of the line."
