Canadian rig counts soar while US counts continue to plunge

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending January 8, the US rotary rig count experienced a 34-rig decline, bringing the current US rotary rig count to 664. The number of rigs drilling for gas declined by 14 to 148, while the number of rigs drilling for oil was declined by 20, bringing the current oil-rig count to 516. The overall rig count is still down by 1,086 rigs, year-on-year.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by 83 in the week ending January 8 to 166. The Canadian rig count is now down by 200 from 366 rigs during the same week a year ago.
