Canadian rig count soars as US count ticks up modestly

Baker Hughes reported that for the week ending July 3 the US rig count increased by one to 1,874, following a 15-rig increase the week before.  The rig count is still up by 117 from 1,757 rigs during the same week a year ago.  The gas rig count decreased by three to 311, whereas the oil rig count increased by four to 1,562.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count sharply increased in the week ending June 27, by 73 to reach 309 following a 29-rig decrease the previous week.  The Canadian rig count is now up 95 from 214 rigs during the same week a year ago.
