Canadian rig count falls for second straight week

Baker Hughes reported that for the week ending April 4, 2014 the US rig count increased by nine to 1,818, following a six-rig increase the previous week.  The rig count is still up by 80 from 1,738 rigs during the same week a year ago.  The oil rig count increased by 11 to 1,498, whereas the gas rig count decreased by two to 316.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count continued its sharp downtrend, dropping by 63 in the week ending April 4 to reach 235, following a 91-rig plunge the week before.  However, the Canadian rig count is still up 29 from 206 rigs during the same week a year ago.
