Canadian iron ore exports jump 23.4 percent in August

According to Statistics Canada, iron ore exports totaled 4.27 million tons in August, an increase of 23.4 percent when compared to August 2015. In a month-on-month comparison, iron exports increased 25.1 percent.
 
The largest importer of Canadian iron ore in August was China, totaling 1.717 million—a significant 375.6 percent increase from the month before. Other primary export destinations were Japan (501,000 tons), the UAE (368,000 tons) and Belgium (326,000 tons).
 
Year-to-date iron ore exports through August totaled 27.22 million tons, an increase of 13.5 percent when compared with the same period last year, when cumulative exports totaled 23.98 million tons.
