Canadian auto parts company Martinrea to invest $85 million in Mexican facility

Ontario, Canad-based Martinrea has invested $85 million to open its 17th plant in Mexico, in Coahuila, reported Governor Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís.

“The investment was $85 million, 450 new jobs were generated and it produces complex stampings and assemblies for the automotive industry,” the governor said, according to a press release.

The auto parts facility is one of many located in the northern city of Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, close to the General Motors and Stellantis production. The city is located 200 miles south of the border of Laredo, Texas.

The other Martinrea plants in Mexico are in the northern city of Hermosillo, Sonora and in Bajío, in San Luis Potosí.

According to the Canadian company's website, its clients include BMW, Bombardier, Caterpillar, Chery, Daewoo, Daimler, Fiat, Ford, Geely, John Deere, KIA, Nissan, Mazda, Navistar, Renault, Stellantis, Toyota, Trane, Volkswagen , among others.

Data from the business chamber Industria Nacional de Autopartes (INA) place Coahuila as the largest producer of auto parts in Mexico with 15.4 percent market share, followed by Guanajuato (13.1 percent of the total), Nuevo León (12.2 percent), Chihuahua (8.8 percent) and Querétaro (7.9 percent). Together these five states contributed 57.3 percent of the national total.
